The Story of ASCAR Cinema
ASCAR Cinema is the direct successor to Meloman Entertainment. The company’s story began with the opening of a small retail kiosk in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Over the years, the business grew into a diversified holding company spanning retail, film distribution, tourism, and services.
Our work in film began in 2001 with a VHS and DVD distribution agreement with Columbia Pictures. The first title we released on VHS was Men in Black.
In 2007, we signed a theatrical distribution agreement with Buena Vista Sony Pictures Releasing. Our first theatrical release was Enchanted, launched on 15 prints and grossing USD 200,000. In 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home became our highest-grossing release in Kazakhstan, with box office revenue exceeding USD 4.15 million.
In 2010, Meloman Entertainment entered into an agreement with The Walt Disney Company CIS for DVD and Blu-ray distribution. In May 2022, we signed a direct theatrical distribution agreement with Walt Disney Studios.
At the same time, Meloman Entertainment also distributes independent films from Kazakhstan and other CIS countries and produces Kazakh-language dubbed versions of films.
